Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of digital transformation in achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by identifying key opportunities, challenges, and the impact of digital technologies on global sustainability efforts. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing semi-structured interviews to collect data from 22 participants with expertise in digital transformation and sustainability. The participants were selected through purposive sampling and were engaged in online interviews. The data were analyzed using NVivo software for thematic analysis, with theoretical saturation reached to ensure comprehensive data collection. The study revealed that digital transformation significantly contributes to the achievement of the SDGs by enhancing access to essential services, fostering technological innovation, and improving decision-making. Key findings highlighted the importance of digital infrastructure, technological innovations like AI and IoT, and the alignment of policies with sustainable development goals. However, the study also identified challenges, including the digital divide, regulatory barriers, data privacy concerns, and the need for digital literacy to ensure inclusive and equitable access to digital tools. Digital transformation holds immense potential to drive progress toward the SDGs. However, addressing barriers such as infrastructure gaps, outdated regulatory frameworks, and digital literacy is critical for ensuring the successful integration of digital technologies into sustainability efforts. A collaborative, multi-stakeholder approach is essential to harness the full potential of digital transformation for global sustainability.
